History
In early 2012, Monica Solomon and George Thompson of the Schlechty Center and Pat Hodge and Ruth Ash of Education Solutions began conversations about convening a meeting of several Alabama Superintendents to study and plan for transformational leadership in Alabama school systems. Subsequently, Education Solutions and the Schlechty Center sought the partnership of Dr. Tommy Bice, State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Eric Mackey, Director of School Superintendents of Alabama, Dr. Peggy Connell, Samford University Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and several Alabama superintendents. After an initial meeting in July 2013 among all of the partners, an initial Alabama Transformational Leadership Academy (TLA) class was identified.
The Alabama Transformational Leadership Academy is an invitational initiative to think about transforming education in Alabama and provide professional development and support for like-minded Alabama Superintendents. The work does not compete with state or organizational initiatives, but encourages and assists Superintendents in meeting their goals as transformational leaders in Alabama.
George Thompson and Monica Solomon are serving as guides throughout this process, planning the outstanding agendas and facilitating the rich discussions.
